I'm itching to float it next year; I'm just curious as to how long into the summer season the navigable flows last.
IanUnknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/03019711691702409343noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8270459123446354854.post-87496020022929843372011-09-22T22:59:36.721-07:002011-09-22T22:59:36.721-07:00Hi,

I have information on the falls (what you call good beer falls)and the wood dam. The falls was named decades ago and is called Minam Falls. The wood dam is remanents of a splash dam used for logging operations from the early 1930s. It used to be a lot bigger a few decades ago. This is documented ina report form the Fish and Game commission from the 1960s with photos in this document:
http://www.fishlib.org/library/Documents/EnvSurvey/pt1wallowa.pdf

Jason ShappartUnknownhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07731500431597869652noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8270459123446354854.post-67536178646246011292010-10-01T14:03:01.198-07:002010-10-01T14:03:01.198-07:00Interesting, thanks for the research Dan! According to Leon, Gary Lane was the one who ran the lower section commercially, and we kind of assumed that some day someone had been in there, but haven't been able to find reports or beta anywhere. After getting in there, I was surprised no one ever talks about it and started wondering if it ever had been run. Did Whit say who did run the FD and how high up they put in?Dan Thurberhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/09776124269638560610noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-8270459123446354854.post-33270726391837569682010-09-30T20:56:03.112-07:002010-09-30T20:56:03.112-07:00A bit of curiosity about Minam paddling history go...A bit of curiosity about Minam paddling history got stirred in me after reading this. I reckoned legendary paddler Whit Deschner would have done this run, probably a decade or two ago -- as he laid claim to lord-knows how many FDs all over the world and lives out of nearby lonesome ol' Sparta.

He said: "no i never did the minam, but i'm positive it was done years ago most likely by gary lane in riggins who used to live in cove. i'm certain too someone packed in with horses around 15 years ago and ran it."

Just thought you might be interested. I was thinking about packrafting it but figured the flows would be too low in mid Sept. I lived in Richland/Halfway for awhile -- totally love that area and am stoked to know that the Minam is the gem I thought it might be.

btw Eagle Creek on the south side of the E. Caps is pretty fun, and the flooding this year flushed a lot of inconvenient wood out. There is a lot of that creek that I haven't investigated yet though.

Have you ever run the Imnaha?Danhttp://jedarapa22@yahoo.comnoreply@blogger.com
